The National Organizing Secretary (NOS) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Umar M. Bature, has addressed a false publication circulating on social media.
This misleading claim asserts that the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) did not authorize the North East and South East Zonal Congresses scheduled for Saturday, February 22, 2025.
In his formal statement issued on Thursday, Hon. Bature clearly disassociated himself from the purported disclaimer.
He emphasized that he neither authored nor approved such a message.
Furthermore, he stated that the NWC officially directed the conduct of the South East and North East Zonal Congresses during its meeting on Thursday, February 20, 2025, as announced by the National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba.
Hon. Bature clarified that the National Working Committee (NWC) communicated its decision via an official press statement.
He reiterated that the National Publicity Secretary serves as the authorized voice for all information regarding party activities and programs.
He described the circulating disclaimer as “strange, highly embarrassing, and clearly intended to create confusion and destabilize the party.”
Hon. Bature announced that he officially filed a complaint with security agencies to investigate the incident and find those accountable. He described the act as a “criminal action,” emphasizing the seriousness of the situation.
Furthermore, Hon. Bature urged party members, INEC, security agencies, and the public to disregard the false disclaimer.
He stressed the need to follow the official communication from the PDP, reiterating the scheduled North East and South East Zonal Congresses for Saturday, February 22, 2025.
He confirmed the postponement of the South South Zonal Congress, and the organizers will announce a new date later.
In addition, the PDP NOS reaffirmed the party’s dedication to transparency and orderliness in its internal processes.
They expressed confidence that the ongoing investigation would provide clarity and hold those responsible accountable for their actions.
Consequently, this development highlights the crucial need to verify information through official channels.
It aims to prevent misinformation from jeopardizing the stability of the organization and its integrity.
