Nigeria’s Vice-President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has shunned the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress [APC] in Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma during a brief stopover at the Imo State Airport, Owerri, en route Abia State.

Observers say he dashed the hopes of Senator Uzodinma as he vehemently refused to get involved in the petty politics of Imo State.

The Vice-President whose jet landed at the Imo International Cargo Airport, Owerri, drove on a motorcade to Abia State to offer moral support to the APC governorship candidate in that State.

It was gathered that Osinbajo made it clear that he was not ready to dangle into Imo’s internal political business.

According to him, the governor of Imo State and Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Owelle Rochas Okorocha is a valued political ally of the President and an indispensable leader of the APC.

The amiable Vice-President was received at the airport by the Imo State Deputy Governor designate, Sir Calistus Okenze.

He extended his best regards to the governor through the deputy governor and declined desperate entreaties made to him by Senator Hope Uzodinma to make a brief stop to his campaign office in Owerri in order to boost the morale of his supporters and financiers.

It soon became obvious that the Vice-President was not ready to give in to the demand of a brief visit to his campaign office.

Uzodinma was said to have desperately pleaded with the Vice-President to at least raise his hands before cameramen, to serve as a form of endorsement.

The Vice-President, however, declined and urged him to go about his campaign with every seriousness, as he would win, if he is popular enough.

Sources close to the Vice-President said the Vice-President saw through Hope Uzodinma’s trickery and couldn’t have fallen for it.

“It was clear to the Vice-President that the Senator wanted to use him to run to score a bad political point.

“The Vice-President is an apostle of one man, one vote and couldn’t have lent himself to be used to send the wrong signals about President Buhari’s impartiality and determination to conduct a free, fair and credible elections,” the source said.
