The Chairman of the Edo State All Progressives Congress (APC), Anselm Ojezua Esq. has written to the Commissioner of Police, Edo State Police Command, Benin City, over the State’s governorship election primaries.

Mr. Ojezua, in the letter, asked INEC to ignore the Edo State primaries held in the state on Monday.

The Edo State APC Chairman referred to a letter written by the factional National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Victor Giadom over the governorship primary election in the state.

The letter was addressed to the chairman Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.

Hon. Giadom, in his letter, said that the governorship primary held on Monday is illegal and should not be recognised.

In the letter dated Thursday, June 18, 2020, the self-acclaimed National Chairman insisted that no APC gubernatorial primary committee was inaugurated for Edo State.

He also held that no primary was planned for Monday, June 22.

He, therefore, declared the election a nullity.

Towing the same line, the Edo APC Chairman, Ojezua, drew the attention of the Commissioner of Police to Giadom’s letter.

Addressing Giadom as “the acting National Chairman of… the All Progressives Congress”, Ojezua wrote:

“In that letter he made it clear that he did not Inaugurate nor authorise the setting up of any Committee to conduct Gubernatorial Primaries in Edo State.

“Furthermore, he reiterated that the Primaries earlier slated for June 22nd has been postponed to a later date to be communicated in due cause.

“I have attached a copy of the said letter for reference and information.”

According to him, the purpose of his letter is to notify the Police Commissioner of this development.

He also informed him that the purported Primaries were organised by some dissident elements in the Party  and are “unauthorised, provocative and illegal”.

“Besides,” he said, “the mode being proposed for the exercise clearly violates the extant Regulations and Protocols put in place by Government to combat the COVID-19 Pandemic.”

Ojezua, therefore, sought to prevail on the Commissioner not to aid the perceived “illegal activities that have the tendency to lead to a breach of peace and even a breakdown of law and order”.

He implored him to ensure that the exercise is aborted in order not to expose members and other citizens to danger.
