Ohanaeze Ndigbo National Elections Heats Up

The national elections of Ohanaeze Ndigbo youth and women wings will hold in the next few days. The election is expected to be very stiff and hotly-contested .

The Youth wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo was formed by Hon Nnamdi Nwokocha (Carme) a former skipper of the Rangers International football club and Comrade Chuks Ibegbu a veteran pro-democracy activist in 1999 when Nigeria was in a socio-political ferment and trauma.

The aim then was to give Ndigbo a strong voice in Nigeria like other major ethnic groups in Nigeria.

When Nwokocha unfortunately died, Chuks Ibegbu became the Acting National President and later the General Cordinator of Igbo Youths and Special Adviser to late Amb Raph Uwechue, former President General of Ohananeze Ndigbo.

In 2014 Ex-President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Chief  Enwo Igariwey held an election for the youth wing of the body whose tenure expired early in 2018.

The current election is to fill the gap left by the expiration of the tenure of the past EX-CO of the wings.

The Women wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo was led at various times by Prof Uche Emetarom, Senator Joy Emordi, Mrs Chinyere Asika and Chief Mrs Calista Adimachukwu.
