Ohanaeze Ndigbo Honors Late Col Joe Achuzie At Enugu

Igbos from all works of life gathered at Enugu sports club to honor the former Secretary General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo and one of Biafran top military commanders, Colonel Joe Achuzie.

Col Achuzie died at the age of 90 recently and will be buried at his home town in Asaba, Delta State.

In a well-attended night of tribute organised by the Apex Igbo organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the President General of the body Barr Nnia Nwodo lauded the virtues of the Biafran General and called on Ndigbo and Nigerians to emulate the virtues of the patriot.

Speakers after Speakers at the event narrated their experiences with the Military war lord both in Biafra and outside Biafra.

The tough soldier fought at almost all fronts in Biafra and dealt a blow to his foes at Onitsha, Oguta, Okigwe and Abagana sectors of the war.

His bravery at the war front earned him the sobriquet of the Hannibal of Biafra and Air Raid respectively. The host of the event , the Enugu Sports club commended Ohanaeze Ndigbo for the honor and privilege given them to host the event and promised to keep the ideals of Col Achuzie alive.

The President of the club Chief Ben Etiaba in company of the EX-CO  of the club kept the event lively.

The family of Col Achuzie was led by Chief Onyia a former National Vice President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo  with his three sons , younger brother and other relations in attendance.

Among the dignitaries that graced the occasion were the former Military Governor of Imo state Navy Commodore Anthony Aneke, The former President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Chief Enwo Gary Igariwey, the former Secretary General of Ohanaeze Dr Joe Nwaorgu, the present Secretary General of Ohanaeze Barr Uche Okwukwu, Dr Sylvester Ebigwei, the Delta state National Vice Chairman, Chief Tony Okeke, and Barr. Chuks Muomah (SAN), National legal adviser of the body, Chief Eluemunoh.

Others are the National Deputy Financial Secretary of the body, Comrade Chuks Ibegbu, the National Deputy Publicity Secretary of the body, Dr Ezechi Chukwu , Dr Celinia Adibua, a former Financial Secretary of the body, Chief Ogwu, the present National financial secretary, Chief Eric  Ebeh, the  National Deputy Treasurer, Barr Okeagu Ogada, the National Deputy legal adviser ,Dr Ezechi Chukwui,Imo state President of the body, Chief Igoh Okparamma, the Vice President Rivers state, The Delta State President of the group, youth and women leaders of the body, Chief Mrs Kate Ezeofor leader of Umuada Igbo  and several other dignitaries.

The event was marked by musical displays and renditions.

The family of Col Achuzie thanked Ohanaeze Ndigbo and the Enugu sports club for the singular honor done to their father.
