The Kwara State Police Command has released Alhaji Abdulwahab Babatunde Yusuf, the Chief of Staff to the Kwara State governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed.

Alhaji Yusuf was arrested in connection with the famed Offa bank robbery which saw 31 persons killed by the assailants.

Yusuf was afterwards arrested over the role he played in connection with one of the cars, a Lexus Jeep, used in the robbery.

ElombahNews gathered that he was released following a letter written to the police hierarchy by the Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr. Abubakar Malami [SAN].

In the letter, Mr. Malami absolved the Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki and Governor Ahmed of complicity or any criminal charges.

Babatunde Yusuf was, after his release yesterday, received at the Government House in Ilorin, the state capital, by the governor and a few other government functionaries.

It could be recalled that ElombahNews reported that AGF Abubakar Malami had told the police that there was no evidence linking Saraki and Governor Ahmed to the robbery.

Malami, in a letter dated June 22, 2018, addressed to the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Kpotum Idris, advised the police to upgrade their investigation by exploring other critical areas before linking the Senate President as a suspect in the crime.

The attorney-general’s office said only six prime suspects should be charged to court for armed robbery and murder which could draw capital punishment upon conviction.

Earlier, Saraki had referred to the letter on Monday night while responding to IGP Idris’ latest summon to him.

He said that the invitation, which he was asked to honour by 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, was unnecessary because the Director of Public Prosecutions had already informed the police that there were no sufficient bases to keep dragging him into the armed robbery investigation.
