When the APC presidential candidate, Mr Bola Ahmed Tinubu, revealed that he shall recruit 50 million youths into the army and feed them agbado (corn) and cassava, do you believed he was joking? Of course, he was serious about raising an army of political thugs whose jobs should be to snatch ballot boxes on the day of elections and executing other dangerous assignments thereafter.

Few days back, a list emanated from the APC camp which had the children of the old order, including a 10 year old son of a certain politician, listed as “Young Statesmen” while the children of ordinary citizens were listed as “Jagaban Army”.

That Mr Tinubu has the temerity to raise a personal army in this time of elections is not only an indication of how lawlessness our country has become in the hands of APC government, but has also shown that the old order is hell bent on causing mayhem on the election day especially in the areas where the Labour Party presidential candidate, HE Mr Peter Obi – who have been giving them a nightmare – has a stronghold of electorate.

While this is not surprising, it goes a long way to show the kind of character the Emilokan crooner is. Here is one who believes in violence, thuggery, and banditry in achieving his desperation to power. At the very least, Tinubu did it [and still doing it] in Lagos State and apparently wants to replicate same in the entire Nigeria if elected president.

But must a presidential candidate be so insensitive as to disregard the law of the land he seeks to rule? In case he has forgotten or wants to feign ignorance of the law, here is what Section 251 of the Criminal Code stated:

that any person who, not being a person serving in any of the Armed or police forces of Nigeria, wears the uniform of any of these forces, or any dress having the appearance or bearing of any of the regimental or other distinctive marks of any such uniform, in any manner or in circumstances as to be likely to bring contempt on that uniform, or employs any other person so to wear such uniform or dress, is guilty of a simple of fence, and is liable to imprisonment for three months or to a fine of N40 (Forty Naira ).

Obidient Nigerians, we must get it right on February 25th on the ballot by thumbing for a law-abiding presidential and vice presidential candidates in HE Peter Obi and Sen Dr Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed.

They shall dismantle the structures of criminality that characterizes the old order and install a new order where the rule of law is respected through the implementation of effective legal and institutional
reforms.
