Most users of social media must have already seen the attached picture. It came straight from Saturday’s Mega March in Abuja for the Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, and his running mate. Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed.

The OBIdient Movement that goes hand-in-hand with its twin, OBI-DATTI Movement made another loud statement in the nation’s capital city on Saturday, September 24 and it was arguably the loudest statement ever made in this journey to turn Nigeria around for the better.

Others before it were quite loud, especially those of Port Harcourt, Enugu, Jos, Zamfara, Owerri, Umuahia, Onitsha, Ibadan, Abeokuta, Ebonyi etc. But just a week after Jos seemed to have taken the trophy of being the loudest, Abuja eclipsed every other performance by any city in Nigeria yet.

With Lagos lurking on the horizon, Abuja remains the undisputed defending champion, at least for seven days. It may be more because beating the number of the crowd, orderliness and peace displayed by Abuja OBIdients will definitely take some doing.

But beyond the picture quality and the aesthetics of the city’s beautiful structures, the lessons continue to hammer home that whoever thought HE Peter Obi and Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed were kidding when they assured they were going to turn dear country around will certainly think again.

Forget the number of people coming out to march…just dwell on the significance. Did any Nigeria prior to May 2023 ever imagine that Nigerian youths could take to the streets to yearn for just a candidate in a most beautiful demonstration of the values of Democracy ever witnessed in any surface of the African continent yet?

” OBICRACY: The System where the People choose a Competent Leader without structure over an Incompetent Leader with structure.”

That is how one of the participants described it. It might have couriered humour but nothing could be closer to the definition of the chain of events unfolding since HE Peter Obi declared his intention to run for the presidency on April 5, 2022.

It was then over 10 months to the election day, but that has become five months, counting to February 25, 2023. And within those past five months and few days, the former governor of Anambra State has both wittingly and unwittingly changed almost every known norm of political practice in Nigeria.

The people are responding to every taunt from the opposition in overflowing manner. You castigate Obi or his running mate in anyway, you get your money’s worth of trouble. You taunt them that they have no structure, and they conduct a million-man march right through your bedroom.

Significantly, it is no longer just about the youths or only four people typing from a room. In Abuja, a 73-year-old retired colonel marched all through the 12 kilometres, chanting the OBIdient songs. Such significant turnaround does not just happen for the fun of it.

Nigerians are speaking in one voice that they want to take back their country. Let noone attempt to stop this tsunami. All OBidients want from President Muhammadu Buhari’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is a free-and-fair election.

Buhari promised that at the floor of the United Nations General Assembly. He better mean every word. Today’s Nigeria will not take any form of shortchange via the polls. Read more.
