Obi condemns killing of soldiers in Aba by IPOB
Mr Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the last general election, has condemned the brutal killing of five soldiers by members of the proscribed Indigenous People Of Biafra on Thursday in Aba, the economic hub of Abia State.
The former governor of Anambra State in a statement on Friday expressed sadness over the unfortunate attack.
He said, “I am appalled and saddened by the attack on our brave soldiers in Abia State yesterday, resulting in the death of five soldiers.
“This dastardly act remains condemnable as it is a stark reminder of the escalating insecurity and violence that has continued to plague our nation under our collective watch,” Obi stated.
While extending his condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers and the people of Abia State, Obi lamented the nation’s urgent need to protect its citizens and security operatives.
“Their sacrifice will never be forgotten, and we owe it to them to demand accountability and justice.
“Our failure as a nation to protect our citizens and security personnel is a clear dereliction of duty and sign of deficiency of the Nigerian state”.
Obi condemned the attack and called for an immediate and thorough investigation to smoke out and punish the criminal elements.
“I condemn this atrocity in strong terms, and demand an immediate and thorough investigation into this crime in order to identify and punish the culprits
“The continued brutality and bloodshed in our nation must be met with swift and decisive action, not empty words and hollow promises,” he said.
Newsband had reported that members of the Eastern Security Network, the militia wing of IPOB on Thursday launched vicious attack on military personnel at Obikabia area of Abia State.
The criminal elements numbering over 20 said to be enforcing the May 30th sit-at-home announced by the rogue group to commemorate Biafra heroes and heroines day, killed the military operatives and set their operational van ablaze.
