Latvian basketball player, Janis Timma has been found dead after he was believed to have fallen from an apartment building in Moscow.
The 32-year-old who played for Monbus last season and previously for Baskonia, tragically died on Monday night, according to multiple Russian media agencies.
The player was found at the entrance of the residential building where he lived in Moscow, and the initial hypothesis from medical services is that the forward took his own life by jumping from a height.
Beside his body was his mobile phone with the message “call Anna” and the phone number of his ex-wife, Ukrainian singer and actress Anna Sedokova, from whom he had separated on December 9.
Meanwhile, the preliminary cause of death has been ruled as suicide.
The pair got married in 2020, but Sedokova filed for divorce earlier this year.
A devastated Sedokova posted an emotional message on Instagram on Tuesday morning.
The 6ft 7in small forward was selected by the Memphis Grizzlies with the 60th overall pick in the 2013 NBA draft.
He was later traded to the Orlando Magic, leading to an appearance at the 2021 NBA Summer League.
Timma also represented Latvia at several junior and senior tournaments and was part of the team that won a bronze medal in the 2010 FIBA U18 European Championship.
He played a total of 35 matches for his national team since his 2014 debut and scored 338 points.
However, his former national team teammate, Kristaps Porzingis, expressed his sorrow on social media stating, “Human connection is the cornerstone of our mental health. Please take care of each other.”
