N5.8 Billion NEMA Fraud: Reps Move To Impeach Osinbajo
Lawmakers of the House of Representatives have commenced collating signatures in a bid to impeach Vice President Yemi Osinbajo [SAN].
A member of the House, Hon. Johnson Agbonayinma made the disclosure to newsmen on Tuesday while addressing journalists in Abuja.
The lawmaker representing Egor/Ikpoba-Okha Federal Constituency, Edo State, stated that the reason for the impeachment is because of the National Emergency Management Agency [NEMA] investigation recently concluded by a House Panel.
Hon. Agbonayinma said “Some political gladiators and media houses” were sponsoring fake news against Osinbajo.
He, however, refused to name those behind the campaign against the Vice-President when prodded by journalists.
He said that they include disgruntled members of the All Progressives Congress [APC].
It could be recalled that the House had probed NEMA activities in the North-East and indicted Osinbajo and the Director-General of the agency, Engineer Mustapha Maihaja.
Besides indicting Osinbajo of illegally authorising a controversial N5.8 billion, the House Panel accused Maihaja of embezzling/misappropriating N33 billion.
The House of Representatives, therefore, asked President Muhammadu Buhari to sack the NEMA Director-General over the N33 billion theft.
