The police in Kano State have arrested a 22-year-old man, Imrana Muhammad, for allegedly trespassing into cemeteries and stealing gravestones.

The suspect was arrested in the Tudun Wada Cemetery in Nasarawa LGA after removing about 20 gravestones.

While being paraded by the police, the suspect confessed to the crime, saying he had been doing it for a long time and that he sold the gravestones to scavengers and scrap dealers.

He said he normally gathered 20 to 30 of the gravestones in a day and took them to the buyers and that each kilo was sold for N300.

He explained that, “I don’t know the number of gravestones I have stolen so far. But I usually go to cemeteries and remove the iron boards and sell them to scrap dealers. I usually go there at 3am.”
