The Chairman of George Uboh Whistleblowers Network [GUWN], Dr. George Uboh has sharply condemned the Minister for Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed who, a few days ago, released two lists containing alleged list of members of the People Democratic Party [PDP] that looted the treasures of the country.

Reacting to the development, the foremost whistleblower in Nigeria, Dr. George Uboh said that the response, albeit belated, partially justified his position.

Dr. Uboh, in several memos to ElombahNews, had always maintained that it is not just enough to recover loots without disclosing the looter as well as the amount recovered.

Pursuant to that, he had petitioned the Ministers of Information and Culture and Justice, Alhaji Lai Mohammed and Abubakar Malami, respectively via Freedom of Information Act. [See the attached]

In the petition, he requested them to furnish names of looters and amount refunded to the federal government.

Responding, on August 2, 2017, Alhaji Mohammed agreed to furnish the names of looters and amount refunded in line with Justice Shagari’s ruling of July 5, 2017.

He assured that the “ministry would revert soon”.  [See attached documents]

Following the recent list released by the Information Minister, however, Mr. Uboh wondered what prompted Mohammed to “come up with a partisan list that violates the spirit of fair hearing”.

He asked: “Why would Lai Mohammed fail to obey court order and GUWN’s FoI request premised by the court order?”

He further noted that “a case in court cannot be deemed conclusive hence you cannot refer to the parties as looters”.

After weighing the negative impacts of the action of the Minister of Information, he concluded:

“This does not serve President Buhari well same way Oyegun-led tenure elongation does not serve Buhari well.”

Uboh was also a guest of Mr. Patrick Otoro on April 3, on Love FM Abuja, where he thrashed out the matter thoroughly and indicted Lai Mohammed of breaching legal procedures.
