Lagos State HoS Calls on Internal Auditors to embrace digital transformation

Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, has urged internal auditors to embrace digital transformation practices.

During the 17th Annual Retreat for Internal Auditors at Dover Hotel, Ikeja, he emphasized the necessity for auditors to develop skills in data analytics, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies.

Moreover, Mr. Agoro pointed out that technological advancements are reshaping the auditing profession.

He encouraged auditors to move beyond traditional financial reviews and become strategic advisors within government processes.

“To remain relevant, auditors must analyze vast data, identify trends, and assess risks linked to digital transformation,” he stated.

The retreat, themed “Internal Audit in the Digital Age,” highlights the increasing significance of technology-driven governance.

Mr. Agoro praised the Office of Internal Audit for choosing a topic that reflects current shifts in public sector operations.

Hon. Kehinde Joseph, representing Alimosho Constituency II in the Lagos State House of Assembly, commended the retreat’s initiative.

He emphasized that participants would gain essential knowledge, which would significantly enhance government efficiency, transparency, and accountability.

Furthermore, Hon. Joseph reiterated the crucial role of internal auditors in maintaining sound financial management, urging them to uphold integrity and ethical standards throughout their work.

Additionally, Mrs. Kikelomo Arinola Dawodu, the Permanent Secretary of the Office of Internal Audit, addressed the participants.

She encouraged them to embrace digital advancements to enhance their effectiveness in internal auditing.

Moreover, Mrs. Dawodu urged active participation and networking during the retreat, highlighting the importance of innovation in auditing practices.

She noted, “As digital transformation accelerates, internal auditors must continuously learn, innovate, and integrate new technologies to stay relevant.”

Meanwhile, Dr. Adedeji Awobotu, FCA, mni, and CEO of ADRAC Professional Services Consulting, facilitated a thought-provoking session at the retreat.

Titled “The Digital Age: Challenges and Opportunities for Internal Auditors in the Public Sector,” he identified key issues such as cybersecurity threats and data breaches.

Furthermore, he emphasized the urgent need for equipping auditors with technical skills to manage risks associated with artificial intelligence, blockchain, and big data analytics.

Dr. Awobotu stated, “As governments adopt digital systems for financial transactions and service delivery, auditors must navigate these changes effectively.”

Moreover, he underscored the importance of adapting to technological advancements to ensure robust public sector auditing practices.

He added that embracing innovation could strengthen governance, mitigate financial risks, and enhance public trust in government operations.

Deputy Director of Audit in the Office of Infrastructure, Mr. Taiwo Adekunle, expressed optimism about the retreat’s impact on participants’ professional growth.
