Lagos, Nigeria – The Lagos State Government has reiterated its commitment to addressing food security, specifically supporting vulnerable populations.

As the Lagos Food Bank Initiative celebrated its 9th anniversary, it also unveiled its 3rd warehouse.

The event underscored the importance of collaboration, drawing the attendance of key stakeholders, including representatives from the state government.

Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, represented by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Ms. Abisola Olusanya, highlighted the administration’s steadfast support for initiatives that ensure food access for all Lagosians.

Moreover, this focus holds particular significance for the underprivileged members of the community.

While speaking at the event, Ms. Olusanya praised the Lagos Food Bank Initiative for its impactful contributions over the past nine years.

Additionally, she highlighted the government’s complementary efforts to strengthen food security throughout the state.

“The Lagos State Government remains committed to addressing food security challenges through innovative programs and partnerships.

“Initiatives such as the Ounje Eko Food Discount Market, the Farmers’ Support Programme, and the Central Food Security Systems & Logistics Hub clearly demonstrate our resolve. These efforts aim to boost domestic food production, improve storage and distribution, and ensure food accessibility for all,” Ms. Olusanya stated.

First, the Ounje Eko Food Discount Market has provided affordable food items to residents effectively. Additionally, the Farmers’ Support Programme strengthens local agriculture by supplying farmers with critical tools and training. Simultaneously, the Central Food Security Systems & Logistics Hub streamlines storage and statewide distribution networks.

Finally, the state will establish Mid-Level Agroproduce Hubs to further enhance preservation and reduce food waste. Together, these actions reflect Lagos’ commitment to tackling food insecurity through innovation and direct community support.

In addition, the Lagos Food Bank Initiative’s new warehouse is expected to significantly expand its capacity to serve vulnerable communities.

This expansion will complement the state’s efforts to alleviate hunger through various initiatives.

Since its inception, the organization has consistently served as a key partner in advancing food security in Lagos, actively distributing food supplies to thousands of households.

Meanwhile, as Lagos experiences rapid urbanization and population growth, Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration prioritizes sustainable solutions, particularly addressing food security challenges.

The state government actively fosters partnerships with non-governmental organizations, like the Lagos Food Bank Initiative, while implementing forward-thinking policies.

Consequently, these efforts are vital in building a resilient and inclusive food system.

Ultimately, the event concluded with a renewed commitment from all stakeholders to work collaboratively.

Together, they aim to eradicate hunger and ensure that no Lagos resident goes without access to nutritious food.
