Prof Godwin Emezue, the abducted Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration of Abia State University, has been released after 11 days in the kidnappers’ den.

His abductors reportedly released him on Tuesday night.

Recall that Mr Emezue was abducted by gunmen at his Umuopara Community in Umuahia South local government area where he was fueling his car in a petrol station.

The kidnappers during the abduction also snatched an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card from Emezue’s wife before bundling him into their waiting car and zoomed off.

According to a family source, the kidnappers initially demanded N35m ransom from the Emezue’s family but the family pleaded for a reduction to about N25m.

“The kidnappers had released footage of how they tortured the professor and threatened to kill him if the family failed to pay N20 million before the end of Saturday last week,” the source said.

The source added that the University don is currently receiving medical attention in an undisclosed hospital due to torture.

Meanwhile, the management of the Abia State University, Abia State Police Command and his family are yet to issue any official statement confirming his release.
