JUST IN: Senate recalls Ningi from 3 months suspension
The Nigerian Senate on Tuesday, recalled Senator Abdul Ningi who was abruptly suspended for three months over his budget padding allegations two months ago.
Ningi representing Bauchi Central on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party was on March 12, suspended by the Senate for claiming during a BBC Hausa Service interview that the National Assembly passed two 2024 Appropriation Bills.
He also alleged that the 2024 budget was padded to the tune of N3.7 trillion.
However, the Senate’s decision to recall Ningi follows a motion for “the unconditional recall of Senator Abdul Ahmed Ningi” sponsored by Abba Morro, the Senate minority leader, and co-sponsored by Olalere Oyewumi, Senator representing Osun West and Osita Ngwu, the Senator representing Enugu west.
Morro noted that Ninigi has spent over two months outside the precincts of the National Assembly Complex and needs to return to continue with his legislative activities as the Senator representing Bauchi Central Senatorial District.
He said the Senate Minority Leadership takes full responsibility for the actions of Ningi and apologises on his behalf.
