June 12 Is Not Public Holiday, Federal Govt Clarifies

The federal government has clarified on the issues bordering on whether June 12, 2018, will be a federal public holiday following President Muhammadu Buhari declaration of June 12 as Democracy Day.
In a State House press release on Friday, the federal government answered an emphatic NO!
According to the Presidential Order, June 12 “in FUTURE YEARS will replace May 29th as a National Public Holiday in celebration of Nigeria Democracy Day.”
That does not affect June 12, 2018, it stressed.
Furthermore, in another State House statement issued by Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mallam Abubakar Malami to take immediate steps to publish the Presidential Order in the Federal Gazette.
The directive followed his declaration on Wednesday that henceforth, June 12 be observed as Democracy Day in Nigeria and that some heroes of democracy be given national honours.
