Jigawa discharges 316 Covid-19 patients, opens border

The Jigawa State government has stated, on Saturday, that it has discharged 316 Covid-19 patients leaving only one active case in its isolation centres.

The state governor, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar stated this during press briefing at the State House in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital.

According to Governor Abubakar, the 316 patients have recovered fully from the disease and were discharged.

He also said his government has suspended the border closure with its neigbouring states including Kano, Bauchi, Katsina and Yobe.

He said: “Fellow citizens of Jigawa state, I am pleased to inform you that our COVID-19 response strategy is continuously yielding results.”

He also announced the temporary closure of the isolation centre at Banuso “pending the time we get new COVID-19 patients above the capacity of our main isolation centre.”

Meanwhile, according to data obtained from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Jigawa had reported a total of 317 Covid-19 cases of the novel virus.

The state has also recorded six casualties, as of Friday, 19th June.

As at the given date, there are 19,147 confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported in Nigeria. 6,581 have been discharged with 487 deaths

The State did not record any Covid-19 case on June 20.

In another development, Jigawa State announced the loss of one of its illustrious sons, Professor Haruna Wakili to suspected Covid-19.

The death has occurred of Prof Haruna Wakili, until his death he was the DVC Administration, Bayero University Kano and a former Education Commissioner in Jigawa State. May Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him alJannat-al-firdous.”

Professor Wakili was former Commissioner of Education, Jigawa State.

Until his death, Wakili was the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration, of Bayero University Kano (BUK).

He was also a former Director of Bayero University Kano Centre of Political Research, Mubayya House.

Mourning him, the state also posted:

Your tireless effort in developing educational sector in Jigawa State is commendable and unforgettable.”
