Imo Jailbreak: Ohanaeze youths seek arrest of ex-IGP, COAS for treason as conspirators
The Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), the apex youth wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, after a close scrutiny of the jailbreak in Owerri on Easter Monday have maintained its earlier call for the arrest of the immediate former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu and the Chief of Army Staff, Attahiru Ibrahim over what it described as a security sabotage leading to insecurity in the country.
On Monday 12th April 2021 after a security meeting of Ohanaeze Youth Council led by Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka over the incident that transpired in Owerri, the Council noted that:
“The former IGP and the Chief of Army Staff are conspirators of the recent insecurity in Nigeria.
“It’s practically impossible for armed gang to undertake such operation without internal sabotage and shoot for over 4 hours in a prison yard and State Police Headquarter without multiple casualties/deaths from Policemen or the armed gang.
“Within the government house there is a presence of army generals and four armoured-tanks. Does it mean that the Army Generals can be taken without resistance from men on duty?
“In the State Police headquarters, there was over fifty armed men on duty, yet after 4 hours of gun shooting no lizard was gunned down.
“The former IGP should be arrested immediately, the Chief of Army Staff should resign and be arrested until they reveal to Nigerians their involvement in Owerri prison break.
“The Commissioner of Police in Imo State must not be left out, he has questions to answer. We, therefore, call for his resignation and immediate arrest.
“OYC and the Nigerian youths at large, find it very unthinkable and unbelievable that over 1,800 inmates escaped from the Correctional Centre from around 2am to 3am, and nobody within the Owerri environs saw the prisoners escaping, or did the gunmen came with 50 luxurious buses that conveyed the inmates? No bus can take more than 50 inmates, are they saying over 20 luxury buses came for that operation?
“How did such multitude of prisoners disappear?
“Former IGP and Chief of Army must give explanations to Igbo youths and Nigerian youths at large on what they know about such classified, organized crime against the Nigerian State.
“If the former IGP and Chief of Army staff want us to believe that it was a mere criminal operation of an armed gang that operated within the government house yet faced no confrontation, it means the life of Governor Hope Uzodinma and other governors of the old Eastern Nigeria may be sabotaged by the security personnel.
“We, therefore, query former IGP and Chief of Army staff: what happened to the military aircraft they used to chase ESN out of Orlu.
“Why didn’t they use the same measure to capture the armed gang? Why didn’t they send for re-enforcement to deal with the armed gang or is what happened another ‘America Wonder’ we watch on foreign movies?
“All the policemen and army personnel on duty the day of the incident should equally be arrested immediately for questioning.
“If this ugly incident is treated with levity, it means that Nigeria have psychologically empowered those armed gang which implies that we don’t have security in Nigeria and Nigeria have lost its sovereignty.
“In conclusion, OYC believe strongly that there is a serious internal security sabotage.
“The State Security Service should fish out the sponsors and collaborators of this state crime to face the law within 72hrs.
“We, therefore, appeal to the conscience of Igbo youths and Nigerian youths not to be used as tools of destruction of the desperate political profiteers and shenanigans we have in Igbo land and Nigeria at large.
“Thuggery and criminal activities masterminded or sponsored by these politicians have been the tactics they have used for decades to divide the youths of the poor masses while their children are busy studying in the best universities around the world.”
