Illicit Drugs Worth N5m Seized By Customs In Sokoto

Sokoto, Zamfara and Kebbi Area Command of the Nigeria Custom Service (NCS) said yesterday that it has intercepted illicit drug suspected to be Tramadol worth N5 million along the Sokoto/ Niger Republic land border.

The Area Comptroller, Ahmed Nasir, made this known and still maintain that his men are fully on ground in all the landed borders within the three states to ensure that no such trans-border illegality succeeds.

Continuing he said that his vigilant men intercepted the suspected illicit drug along Illela road in Sokoto State. Illela is a local government area in Sokoto State where most of the villages does not only share common boundary with Niger Republic but also have common infinity through culture, religion and marriage thereby making it easy for smuggling activities.

The Custom’s Comptroller said the drugs was coming from Niger Republic when his men on patrol got intelligence reports and intercepted the vehicle conveying the drugs.

According to the controller, the drugs are not supposed to come via land borders but only through Apapa Sea Port in Lagos.

Itemizing the drugs, Ahmed Said,  the drugs are about 465 pads and each pad contains 10 sachets and each sachet cost N1000.

The controller went further to blame most clashes in Nigeria on drug abuse, while reiterating that no sane person will take up arms to kill or maim his neighbour except under the influence drugs.

Most of the conflicts we have in the country is due to influence of these dangerous drugs he concluded.
