Nigerians have reacted to the sudden death of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Abia State, professor Eleazar Uche Ikonne, accusing the incumbent governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu of pushing the late professor to his grave.

News Band reports that Ikonne who was reportedly battling with an undisclosed illness died in the wee hours of today at the National Hospital Abuja.

A statement made on behalf of the family by Dr Uche Ikonne Chikezie, said that he died after a brief illness.

“I regret to announce the death of my dear father, Prof Eleazar Uchenna Ikonne, who died at the National Hospital Abuja today, 25th January 2023 by 4am after a brief illness.

“He was recovering after taking proper treatment in the United Kingdom but relapsed a few days ago leading to multiple cardiac arrests for which he didn’t recover from.

“Further details and arrangements would be made known to the public after deliberations and meetings are made within the family.”

However, some Nigerians who reacted to the unfortunate death of Mr Ikonne, blamed those who brought him out of retirement to run for the stressful task of governorship race.
