The Inspector-General of Police [IGP] Solomon Arase has ordered the immediate nationwide arrest of person or group of persons that are inciting violence and disorder.
This was contained in statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday, signed by the spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, Bisi Kolawole.
According to the spokesperson of the Force, the order came from the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, following “recent activities of members of the Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign States of Biafra [MASSOB], and the Indigenous People of Biafra [IPOB] in some parts of the country.”
Kolawole disclosed that the “operational order empowers the police to arrest anybody fomenting any act of violence or disorder, or any act inimical to the security of the nation.”
It was further disclosed that so far, four persons have been nabbed in Anambra State, six in Imo State, 11 in Delta State and one person in Abia State.
“The IGP further warns that all persons so arrested for inciting violence, irrespective of their class or status in the society would be charged to court accordingly,” the statement concluded.
