Ibadan stampede: Detained Ooni’s ex-wife collapses, lands in hospital
Naomi Silekunola, ex-wife of the Ooni of Ife, who was arrested by the police, reportedly fainted on Friday.
According to a popular broadcast journalist in Ibadan, Seun Aribikola, the Queen who is being detained in connection with the stampede that killed over 35 children, was rushed to a Police Hospital at Eleyele for medical attention.
Queen Silekunola reportedly joined the Chairman of Agidigbo FM, Hamzat at the same hospital.
“Both of them are currently at the hospital. They brought them in today. But I can’t give you further details because it is a sensitive matter and the police have barricaded the whole hospital,” a source told the Punch.
It was also reported that the case had been taken over by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
Recall that a tragic stampede occurred when participants rushed to gain access to the venue of a charity programme organized by the ex-queen of the Ooni of Ife, Prophetess Naomi Silekunola, and an Ibadan-based broadcaster, Oriyomi Hamzat.
About 35 lives were lost while six others are still battling with their lives at various hospitals.
Agidigbo FM House, one of the hosts of the tragic event, has been shut.
The Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde announced on Friday he would put off his December 25th birthday celebrations and remain alone indoors in honour of the dead.
“I will not go out; no birthday celebration this year,” he told a delegation that paid him a visit over the incident in Ibadan.
