Hunger Protest: Hoodlums burn LG secretariat, cars in Niger, 11 arrested

Police authorities in Niger State have arrested 11 people in connection with the burning of Tafa Local Government Area secretariat during the ongoing nationwide hunger protest.

According to the spokesman of the command in the State, SP Wasiu Abiodun, two cars were set ablaze while two others were vandalized during the protest.

Some valuables were also reportedly looted.

He said security operatives were dispatched to the area to stop the lawlessness and they were able to arrest 11 violent miscreants with different weapons, including firearms.

He also disclosed that some of the looted items were recovered.

According to him, some protesters blocked the Kaduna-Abuja expressway until the police arrived to disperse them.

The police pledged to take decisive action against further lawlessness and destruction of public assets in the name of protests.
