History has been made as Lagos State has produced the first female Assembly Speaker following the swearing-in of Honourable Mojisola Meranda as it’s Speaker.

Though, this comes after the abrupt impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa earlier today.

Mudashiru Obasa was accused financial impropriety and abuse of office.

Among allegations against him was spending a whooping sum of 17 billion on a gate to the assembly complex.

Other allegations against him include the operation of 64 bank accounts linked to his Bank Verification Number (BVN) and the use of multiple names and dates of birth to conceal his identity.

Meanwhile, Meranda, who represents the Apapa 1 state constituency in the Lagos State House of Assembly, took the oath of office on Monday during a plenary session.

Taking her oath of office, Meranda said, “I affirm that I will be faithful as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly; that I will perform my functions honestly to the best of my ability, faithfully, and in accordance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

However, her appointment marks an important milestone in the state’s political equation, as she becomes the first woman to lead the House of Assembly.
