Herbert Wigwe, wife, son die in helicopter crash
The chief executive officer of Access Holdings Plc, Mr Herbert Wigwe has died after a chopper he was aboard crashed in California, United States.
The chopper, identified as Eurocopter EC 130, was en route to Las Vegas when the fatal crash occurred near a border city between Nevada and California on Friday night.
Herbert along with his wife and two sons, and another close friend, Abimbola Ogunbanjo, former group chairman of NGX Group were among the victims.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement that no survivor has been found as of Saturday morning.
“We were made aware of a downed aircraft at approximately 10:12pm on February 10, 2024. The scene of the crash was determined to be east of the 15-Freeway, near Halloran Springs Road,” the sheriff’s department said.
Meanwhile, the aviation authorities in the United States is yet to give update on what could have caused the unfortunate crash.
Wigwe before his death was a Nigerian banker and entrepreneur.
He was recognised as the African Banker of the Year at the 2021 edition of the African Bankers Awards.
