Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have ambushed and killed two operatives from the Police Force Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) while conducting a routine patrol in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The unfortunate attack occurred around 7:30pm on Tuesday along Little Rayfield Road, where unidentified gunmen opened fire on the officers.
During the assault, Inspector Fatoye Femi and Inspector Dafur Dashit were fatally shot, and the attackers fled with an AK-47 rifle, whose breach number remains unknown.
Meanwhile, following the incident, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Bukuru Division arrived at the scene with a team of officers, recovering five spent 5.56mm ammunition casings.
The remains of the officers have been taken to the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) Mortuary.
In response, security personnel arrested two suspects and recovered the vehicle allegedly used in the attack.
Authorities are intensifying efforts to track the fleeing suspects and retrieve the stolen weapon.
However, Plateau State Police Command has reassured the general public that every necessary step is being taken to capture those responsible and strengthen security in the region.
