A Non-Government Organization (NGO), Grassien Education and Entrepreneurship foundation has moved to improve the standard of education in Akwa Ibom through a Memorial Lecture in honour of Monsieur Essien Asibong Akpan, an educationist.

In a statement by the Company Secretary of Ibom Power Company Limited and a member of the Board of Trustees, Ime Asibong, the lecture is intended to evaluate and reappraise the challenges in the educational system and proffer solutions.

He said “our late father Monsieur Essien Asibong Akpan in his final days wrote a collection of African folktales which he titled ‘Tales From Ibom Land’.

Unfortunately, he transited to glory on the 28th December 2007 before the manuscript could be sent for publication”.

“This annual memorial lecture to be held on Saturday, the 1st of September 2018 at the Banquet Hall of Eemjm Hotels Utuk Avenue, Uyo Akwa Ibom State is to preserve and protect the ideals of our late and also launch the book “Tales From Ibom Land”.

Speaking on the book, Mrs Nsidibe Aideyan, a Member of the Board of trustees said “the book ‘Tales from Ibom land’ is a collection African folktales from the Ibibio perspective.

Our late father was a lover of stories and he felt the culture of storytelling was becoming extinct hence the need to have a documented form of these stories”.

She said Grassien foundation will also look into the provision of infrastructure that will promote educational excellence and entrepreneurship with the involvement of relevant stakeholders in Akwa Ibom State.
