Kogi State, Governor Yahaya Bello of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has asked the Peoples Democratic Party to pay N37.5 million before its candidates could be allowed to paste posters or distribute flyers.

The government in a letter dated October 24 and addressed to the PDP chairman in the state demanded the payment of the fund within 14 days.

The letter signed by Sule Salihu Enehe, the acting Executive Chairman of the Kogi State Internal Revenue Service, said that the presidential candidate of the party is to pay N10 million, senatorial candidates are to pay N2 million each, while House of Representatives candidates are to pay N1 million each.

Similarly, those wishing to contest for the state House of Assembly are to pay N500,000.

“Please note that failure to make payment within the stipulated period will lead to the removal of your posters and signages across Kogi State and possible legal action. As we look forward to a timely response and settlement of these obligations, kindly accept the assurance of our highest regard,” he said.

There has been a clampdown on members of the opposition parties in Kogi State.

The governor had in a video published recently vowed that he would ensure his party won all the elections in the state by whatever means.

He also threatened to attack political opponents in the state, vowing that anyone that goes against him will be sent to his mother’s grave.

In another video, the governor said he would make use of firepower to silence opponents in the state who contest in the elections, noting that he would ensure the APC won every post in the state forthcoming election.
