Gov Okowa, Douye Diri, Yahaya Bello For Tompolo’s Annual Lecture In Warri

The trio of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta, Douye Diri of Bayelsa and Yahaya Bello of Kogi States are among the top dignitaries expected to attend this year’s Annual International Symposium to celebrate the 50th birthday of former Niger Delta freedom fighter, Chief Government Ekpemupolo alias Tompolo.

The event billed to hold at the Warri Township Stadium Monday April 12, 2021 will attract dignitaries from across the country to celebrate the golden jubilee of the former leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND).

In a statement jointly issued on Tuesday by the National Coordinator of the Tompolo Annual International Symposium/Celebration, Mr. Jacob Abai; Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), Mr. Michael Tonlagha, and Comrade Fiyebo Eperetei, Secretary LOC, said the event will anniversary lecture, cultural activities/performances and many more.

The statement explained that the Executive Governor of Bayelsa, Senator Douye Diri, will be the keynote speaker at the event.

Governor Diri will speak on the topic, ‘Security, Peace and Development in the Niger Delta’ through which he expected to address the myriads of socio-economic problems and issues of sustainable development in the Niger Delta region.

Similarly, Delta governor, Dr Okowa, will be the chief host while Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State will stand as the Special Guest of Honour which is expected to be attended by traditional rulers and leaders of ethnic nationalities in the Niger Delta and beyond.

The event is billed for 10am.

“The Golden jubilee celebration is in furtherance of the annual birthday series in honour of Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo in acknowledgement of his sterling contributions towards the development of Ijaw nation and the entire Niger Delta as a whole.

“To help our invited guests and general public understand fully the strategic importance of this celebration, it is important at this juncture to underline that Chief Oweizide is a Peace Ambassador and an illustrious son of Ijaw nation and that of Niger Delta by extension.

“He is a freedom fighter/former General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND).

“He is also the Chief Priest of the Egbesu deity, the Ijaw nation god of war. It is on record that, Chief Government Ekpemupolo has assisted, and strategically become a valid instrument of peace in the Niger Delta region.

“His efforts in the areas of peace and security have become the most pronounced reason for why sustained peace and calmness now exists in the region”, the statement added.
