Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State has allegedly abandoned students from the state on scholarship in Sudan, refusing to pay their stipends to enable them live normal lives.
A Twitter user, AM Saleem, made the disclosure via his handle, @AM_Saleeem, on Friday, following a conversation with one of the students.
Reporting, Saleem disclosed that some of the students have been evicted for lack of rents, while others either squat with friends or sleep in mosques.
He tweeted:
“A student you @Bellomatawalle1 took on scholarship to Sudan confirms to me; the male students have been evicted from their hostels today because the landlord haven’t received two years payment of their rents. Some are currently squatting with friends & some in mosques.
Another Twitter handle, obviously for laundering Matawalle’s image, @MatawalleAgain, retorted:
“No students reportedly evicted from their hostels. All the students Gov. Matawalle sponsored to study professional courses at Sudan, Cyprus and India are currently studying at their respective institutions. Spreading lies would never deter us, we are committed to ensure the welfa.”
Another concerned citizen, Abdullerhi Sani, @abdullerhi_sani, countered:
“I don’t think someone who can’t sponsor students to study well within his nation can sponsor students nicely to study abroad!”
While Ahmad Tysadis, @ahmadtysadis, added:
“Ya Rabbi guide us through the right path. But seriously this governor is doomed. Zamfara we’re in trouble.” Read more.
