Nigerians have continued to express hard feelings over the massacre by heavily armed, daredevil robbers in Offa, Kwara state, on Thursday.

Several people were killed as robbers raided banks, seized the town by blocking roads from Ilorin and Osogbo, attacked police station, then proceeded to banks, carting away huge cash.

According to some analysts that spoke with ElombahNews, the gory event is another clear picture of the level of insecurity bedeviling the country.

Some eyewitnesses declared yesterday a dark day in Offa Kwara State, after the band of bandits laid siege on the whole town.

Reports show that people were slaughtered indiscriminately without mercy.

Even the central police station was sacked and policemen and women were slaughtered just as banks were raided.

Shortly after the carnage, gory pictures emerged.

According to eyewitnesses, the robbers reportedly rained bullets on the closest Police Station before robbing the banks.

Others said the robbers were very confident during the operation.

 

Yet others say that this is “mayhem of terrorism magnitude” and “inexplicable”.

A particular eyewitness suggested that th armed robbers may have killed as many as 32 people including 11 Police Officers after raiding five banks.

After the incidence, the governor of Osun State, Mr Rauf Aregbesola tweeted:

“ I commiserate with the people of Offa, the King, Chiefs, elders, the Govt and Governor of kwara @AbdulfataAhmed on this very depressing and unfortunate incident.

“No effort must be spared to apprehend the bandits. May Allah rest the deceased, heal the injured and secure the land.”

Also, the KOWA Party wrote:

”We offer our condolences to the people of Offa, Kwara state on the attack by gunmen on numerous banks and the killing of security and innocent people.

”It’s another sad day in Nigeria, the state of security really needs to be addressed across the country.”

Another concerned Nigerian wrote:

I’m a regular visitor to offa town in kwara state, SARS officials are visible everywhere & always harass unnecessarily.

“The question is; where were they when an army of thieves invaded the town & rob 1,2,3,4,5 banks.. 5!!. Shot several civilians dead.”

The police is yet to issue official statement over Thursday’s carnage confirming the casualties.
