Hundreds of thousands of Nigerians have signed a petition demanding for visa ban on the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, over allegedly flawed 2023 general election.

The petition entitled “US, Canada, UK, EU to CANCEL INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu Visa” was started by one Mr. Osusu via Change.org.

Mr. Osusu asked the embassy of the United States in Nigeria, the Canadian High Commission in Nigeria, and the High Commission of the United Kingdom in Nigeria to cancel INEC Chairman Yakubu’s visas.

Explaining the reason for the petition, Osusu said:

“My name is Osusu and I started this petition because I do not believe that the INEC Chairman, Professor Yakubu Mahmood, oversaw a free and fair Presidential election.

“As tribunal proceedings commence, I ask for a visa ban so he can answer for INEC’s shortcomings. Do you agree with me?

“I started this petition because Mahmood refused to do the will of the people. He rigged the election for APC against the will of the Nigerian voters.

“I am so very excited to see like minded people. So grateful guys. Sign this petition.

One of those who signed the petition, Aj Cj, noted:

“The INEC chairman rigged the Presidential election held on the 25th February in Nigeria. He stole the people’s mandate. The results weren’t posted on the portal via the BVAS machine. He’s a criminal.”

Another, Joseph Obodo, added:

“The worst thing that ever happened to Nigerians was the appointment of Prof Yakubu Mahmood as INEC Chairman, he rigged election with impunity.”

As at the moment of this publication, some 328,941 have signed the petition with some 171,051 persons yet to sign to achieve the desired target.

Interested persons are urged to sign the petition using the requisite link.
