Switzerland held their ground against Brazil and got a well-deserved one point from the South Americans in the Sunday match at the ongoing FIFA 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Philipe Coutinho had given Brazil the lead with a stunning strike in the 20th minute which eventually dragged  to the end of first half.

Steven Zuber equalized five minutes into the second half with a close-range header.

With the draw, Serbia remains the team to catch up with in Group E after they beat Costa Rica 1-0 in the opening match of the group.

The Swiss tend to be strong starters at World Cups and this match was no exception especially with some beautiful attacks launched in the second half.

Neymar frustrated

One can confidently say that this is not the start Brazil had hoped for, credit to Switzerland though for fighting back valiantly and held out so resolutely till the end.

Several Brazilian efforts were whittled down by the Europeans as a fine downward header was parried clear by goalkeeper Sommer as Brazil frantically chased a late winner.

In summary, it’s not a matter of stamina or will. It was evident that Brazil fought hard for victory.

But they are struggling to connect against a pretty strong defensive side that has covered eight kilometres more than the South Americans in this match.

HOW THEY STAND:

The Budweiser Man of the Match award goes to PhilIPE Coutinho
