Birnin Kudu, Jigawa State — The Federal Government (FG) of Nigeria reaffirms its determination to eliminate insurgency and banditry in the north-west region by year’s end, stated Defense Minister Muhammad Badaru.
During a recent visit to Birnin Kudu, Badaru spotlighted the significant progress made in addressing security challenges in both the north-west and north-central regions.
He specifically noted the improvements in states such as Zamfara, Sokoto, Niger, Katsina, and Kaduna, attributing these advancements to ongoing coordinated military operations.
“Our intensified fight against bandits and other criminal elements has led to a noticeable improvement in the security situation,” Badaru declared.
Moreover, the minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to eradicating all forms of insurgency across the country. He emphasized that the administration remains steadfast in its efforts to secure peace and stability for all Nigerians.
Badaru also recognized the contributions of community leaders, civil society organizations, and local residents in supporting the fight against terrorism. He acknowledged that these groups have seen the progress made in combating banditry and insurgency.
“Despite this positive turn of events, we will continue building on our achievements while ensuring armed forces receive essential logistical support,” he added.
Furthermore, the defense minister urged Nigerians to actively support security agencies by providing credible intelligence to help identify insurgents effectively.
He stressed that public cooperation is crucial for achieving lasting security.
Addressing concerns about Nigeria’s relationship with neighboring Niger Republic, Badaru dismissed rumors of strained diplomatic ties.
He described the two nations as “brothers” and emphasized that Nigeria would always prioritize its relationship with its close ally.
Furthermore, he assured that Nigeria would never take any actions that could harm the interests or stability of this ally.
“We have said it many times—Nigeria and Niger are like brothers. We will never take any action, no matter how small, that will hurt Niger,” he asserted. “Those trying to incite tensions between us will not succeed.”
In conclusion, the minister urged all Nigerians to unite and actively engage in the fight against insecurity.
He emphasized that only through collective effort can the nation effectively overcome the menace of banditry and terrorism.
As the government intensifies military operations, it also seeks greater public involvement in addressing security issues.
Consequently, hopes remain high for resolving the long-standing security challenges that have plagued the nation for years.
