Mrs. VeraQueen Ebele Okonkwo, the Special Adviser on Chieftaincy Affairs to the Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano has been accused of setting her town—Umuoji on fire trying to install her puppet, one Chief Anayo Okoye, as the new traditional ruler following the death of the late Igwe, HRH Cyril Enweze.

Chief Okoye, it was gathered, is a Works Contractor who is heavily indebted to Access Bank Plc., who the Bank dragged to court and won, though he appealed the judgment.

Notion about the development was brought to ElombahNews by a concerned citizen of the state who pleaded anonymity to avoid victimization.

It was gathered that Mrs. Ebele Okonkwo has been destabilizing the community due to avarice as she sells the community’s ancestral lands, working in cohorts with the likes of one Chief Silas Onyimah whom she imposed as the President General of Umuoji Improvement Union (UIUN).

Furthermore, Mrs. Okonkwo, in tandem with Chief Onyimah, imposes various outrageous types of levy on the community to enrich herself.

For example, ElombahNews gathered that a compulsory N200,000 burial levy was imposed on the community, failure of which one will not be allowed to bury his/her dead loved ones.

Also, a N150,000 per plot land purchase or development levy, as well as N15,000 nonrefundable fine between parties to any land dispute is a burden the community must bear.

ElombahNews reached out to the President General of Umuoji Improvement Union to ascertain is there is any enabling law that backed such outrageous levy which is unheard of in any part of the state.

Onyimah, however, arrogantly rebuffed and told this medium to publish whatever it feels like.

The complainant against Okonkwo wondered why a Special Adviser to Governor Obiano and an indigene of Umuoji will be involved in the scam if not for huge monetary returns.

“No wonder, Anambra State communities are in various avoidable disputes.

“And with huge slush funds compromising relevant security agencies from detailed investigation and criminal prosecution, it is a tragedy indeed!” he lamented.

Presently, the election for Igwe Umuoji is coming up on Saturday, 8th May, 2021, and “Vera”, as she is fondly called by her acquaintances, is reportedly masterminding to impose Chief Okoye the same way she imposed Chief Onyima when the election of 28th December, 2019 was certified inconclusive.

In fairness to Mrs. VeraQueen Okonkwo, ElombahNews also reached out to her to confirm or debunk the allegation leveled against her but she also arrogantly refused to speak with our correspondent, saying she does not communicate with online journalists.

Several messages sent to her WhatsApp number and via SMS were also ignored.
