The political marriage between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike and governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State may be hitting the rock barely six months after a transfer of power between the duo as explosion ripped through the Rivers State House of Assembly building on Sunday night over alleged threat to impeach Fubara.

Some arsonists had carried out the act at about 9:45pm, causing tension around the assembly complex.

A source said the lawmakers have concluded plans to impeach both the Governor and the Speaker of the State House of Assembly on Monday at its resumed sitting following some undisclosed issues.

It was gathered that following the development some youths had stormed the assembly complex and set it ablaze.

A police officer in the state confirmed the development, adding that it took efforts of police and the state Fire Service teams to put out the fire.

“Yes, the Rivers State House of Assembly main chamber was under attack and set on fire. It was policemen and the fire service team that helped to put out the fire.”

Also, a PDP chieftain in Rivers State, Chief Nwosu Iwela told NewsBand that Wike is responsible for the ongoing political face-off in the State.

He noted that since Fubara took over the mantle of leadership, Wike has refused to let him run his government freely.

Iwela said, “Wike wants to stay in Abuja and control what Fubara is doing in Rivers State. He potted the impeachment of the governor. All we are asking the lawmakers to do is to tell Rivers people what Fubara committed that will warrant his impeachment”.

Meanwhile, the State government is yet to issue a statement in respect to the ugly development.
