Equatorial Guinea court remands randy anti-corruption czar in prison
A court in Equatorial Guinea has remanded Mr Baltasar Engonga, the former Director-General of the country’s National Financial Investigation Agency, amid allegations of multiple sex scandals and corruption.
According to media reports, Mr Engonga is being held at Malabo’s Black Beach Prison.
He was recently arrested following accusations of extramarital affairs involving prominent figures, including the sister of Equatorial Guinea’s president and spouses of influential government officials.
During an investigation into suspected fraud, authorities conducted an unannounced search of Engonga’s residence and office.
This search reportedly uncovered CDs containing videos of Engonga’s amorous encounters with over 400 married women.
The recovered videos allegedly show interactions with high-profile individuals, including the wives of various government officials, such as the Director-General of Police, and other prominent figures, along with the president’s sister.
Meanwhile, following the global shame that greeted the shocking revelations, the randy former anti-graft chief was booted out of office by the authorities. Zenón Obiang Obiang Avomo was immediately named as his successor.
The scandal, which implicated numerous public officials, has garnered widespread attention.
Media outlet Ahora EG confirmed Engonga’s dismissal and detention, while a fact-check by Dubawa verified his incarceration on corruption charges at Black Beach Prison.
