Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama, has secured a job in France as coach to a French club side, Iris Club de Croix.

The club, a National 3 side campaigning in the fifth tier of French football, announced this in a statement on their official Facebook Page.

The statement said that Enyeama will be in charge of their reserve team as well as the U16s for a start.

37-year old Enyeama’s appointment as goalkeepers’ coach heralds his first job in such capacity.

The statement reads in part:

“Vincent ENYEAMA, Nigerian International, winner of the CAN 2013, 8th World Cup finalist against France and former goalkeeper of the losc (Lille) from 2011 to 2018, will take in charge of the specific goalkeeper on the training pole (from reserve to U16).”

Enyeama, Nigeria’s most capped player, unceremoniously left the national team after a misunderstanding with former manager Sunday Oliseh.

A quick bio on Enyeama

Enyeama started his footballing career at Enyimba International Football Club, a Nigerian club side.

He won national and continental honours with Enyimba as their first goalkeeper before moving to Israeli.

There, he won championships with both Hapoel Tel-Aviv and Maccabi Tel-Aviv.

He also won the Prix Marc-Vivien Foé award in France after keeping 11 consecutive clean sheets in Ligue 1 matches during 2013-14 season.

During his glamorous career with the Super Eagles, Enyeama represented Nigeria at three editions of the FIFA World Cup in 2002, 2010 and 2014.

He was also a member of the 2013 Nigerian national team that won the AFCON championship.

He was named in the team of the tournament as the first-choice goalkeeper, conceding only four goals in six matches.

He failed to return to action with the Super Eagles after squabble with the then coach, Sunday Oliseh.

To cap a successful footballing career, Enyeama decided to venture into coaching after some years of relative idleness.

A new Nigeria coach, Gernot Rohr said he will soon meet with Enyeama to discuss a comeback by the Lille goalkeeper to the Super Eagles.

The effort never materialised, though.
