According to the foremost ancient Greek philosopher, logician and scientist, — Aristotle, “If liberty and equality, as is thought by some, are chiefly to be found in democracy, they will be best attained when all persons alike share in government to the utmost.” This postulation was believed to be the progeny of the popular legal maxim that anyone approaching equity must come with clean hands.

In today’s Nigeria, three things are shaping our expectations in the forthcoming 2023 general election — the “show your antecedents” criteria, asked by sections of the mainstream media, the “seek equity/justice” slogan favoured by majority of the electorates, and the “go-and-verify” evidence-based mantra chorused by our youths. At each level of the election, from wards to federal, parties were expected to field in candidates that answers the three questions above, bothering on credible antecedents, equity and verifiable track records.

In Udenu constituency, there has been noticeably fair trajectory in this regards.

On the aspect of antecedent: Udenu constituency has seen three of her sons and daughters represent her at the Enugu state House of Assembly in the past 23 years and counting, but in Hon. Solomon Izuchukwu Onah (Jack Solo) resides the quality representation we have been craving. Though, the political philosophy of our past representatives has been uniformly anchored on competency, the uniqueness of Jack Solo’s candidature redounds around his undeniable human capital development strides, as Commissioner and as the current Chairman of Udenu.

Hence, it is time to improve that narrative!

“Personal brands are determined by a track record of actions, not a track record of plans” said American author Ryan Lilly. The trees and birds of Udenu constituency wave and sing respectively to the joyful hope of Jack Solo’s incoming efficient representation at the House of Assembly Enugu.

And this was why his manifesto was well received with resounding applause by the constituents. He was seen as the most qualified in the three yardsticks of measurement viz-vis: equity, verifiable track records and credible antecedents stated above.

Jack Solo didn’t just stumble into a life of integrity. He had lived all his life building it while serving our people, both in public and private endeavors. His life’s principle was set on integrity in line with Jackson Brown’s submission that you should “live so that when your children think of fairness, caring, and integrity, they think of you.”

His past efforts at youth empowerment is unrivalled. As a successful businessman, he has given jobs and helped many with gainful employments. He is a wealth creator across several sectors including agriculture. He has some out-of-pocket community development projects to his name. A mobilizer of common interests, Solo’s humanitarian accomplishments have received many awards and traditional titles as souvenirs of recognition.

This puts him shoulders above his mates in this regard. It is certain that if given a wider and more elaborate platform like the State Assembly, he would do more and better, for according to Ziad Abdelnour: “If there’s a proven track record, the odds are higher that success can be repeated.” Jack Solo is an empirical representation of this submission.

Udenu constituency has one more chance to get it right. And that is found in their illustrious son with innovative leadership wand — Hon. Solomon Izuchukwu Onah. “If you look at history, innovation doesn’t come just from giving people incentives; it comes from creating environments where their ideas can connect” so believed Steven Johnson. Let the enabling environment be created, by rallying support around him. In his youthfulness, he adequately fills, the yawning gap between the people and innovation in leadership.
