Emirate tussle: Court rules in Emir Sanusi’s favour

377

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has ruled in favour of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II in his court battle against Aminu Ado Bayero, the 15th Emir of Kano who was booted out of office last year.

The Appeal Court’s ruling dismissed Bayero’s fundamental human rights case, which challenged Emir Sanusi’s position.

The court declared that Bayero’s case lacked merit and that the Federal High Court had no jurisdiction to intervene in matters related to the Kano State Emirate Council law.

Moreover, the ruling is seen as a tacit approval of the legal framework governing the Kano Emirate and a decisive affirmation of Emir Sanusi’s rightful position.

Human rights activist, OdinKalu speaking on the court ruling said, “#Breaking: The @CourtOfAppealNG has just ruled that the @FederalHigh lacks jurisdiction over Chieftaincy matters & nullified all the extra-terrestrial orders made by Abdullahi Liman in respect of the #KanoEmirate matter. In effect Kano now has only one Emir, Muhammadu Sanusi II.”

With this victory, Emir Sanusi’s leadership and authority have been further solidified, bringing an end to the prolonged legal face-off.

The court’s decision is expected to allow Emir Sanusi to continue leading the Kano Emirate without further interference.
