Ebonyi Court Sentences Woman To Death By Hanging For Killing Co-Wife, 7 Children

A High Court sitting in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State,  has sentenced Mrs. Agnes Nwefuru to death by hanging for the death of her co-wife, Felicia Nwefuru, and her seven children.

ElombahNews gathered that Mrs. Agnes set ablaze the house of Felicia which led to her death alongside the seven children.

Delivering the judgement, the presiding judge, Justice Uwabunkonye Onwosi held that the defendant was guilty of murder charge proffered against her.

“Agnes Nwefuru is found guilty of murder and is hereby convicted. The term of her sentence is that she be hanged by the neck until she is dead,” the judge ruled.

The trouble started when in 2017 eight members of a family were burnt to death after fire broke out engulfing two residential building at Ogboji community in Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

According to the prosecution team, Agnes also burnt her own house as a camouflage.

The prosecution explained how the accused removed all her belongings and that of her children and took them to a safe place outside the house before setting the houses on fire.

Two persons reportedly survived the fire including the husband, Mr Sylvanus Nwefuru and one of Felicia’s daughters, Ukamaka.
