The Department of State Security Service [DSS] has been dragged to court for keeping a man, Mr. Salihu Enesi, in illegal detention for 3 years and denying him access to his family and legal representation.

ElombahNews gathered that Mr. Enesi was arrested along with his brother – Mr. Raji Jamiu, wife, two children who were minors as at the time of arrest aged 4 months and 3 years respectively.

Mr. Jamiu, who deposed to an affidavit, recounted how they were arrested from their family house in Tunga Makama in Niger State on October 28, 2015.

He said that his brother, Salihu, was shot in the leg in his presence and in the presence of family members and was not accorded proper medical treatment.

Consequently, as a result of the gunshot, he could no longer walk as his spinal cord has been  badly damaged.

Several efforts to secure his release to enable him receive proper medical care by family members as well as his lawyers, B.I. Dakum and Co Chambers.

When contacted, the principal lawyer of the Chamber, Barrister Bala Dakum informed ElombahNews that he had written DSS several times to gain access to his client to no avail.

He regretted that the secret security agency would so flagrantly ignore legal and legitimate conditions for release or bail which he had presented to them.

He said: “Till date, the agency has not proffered any accusation against my client or against other co-accused who were released after months in the DSS dungeon.

“Worse yet, I can’t gain access to him to ascertain what he is being held for. It’s simply unbelievable,” he added.

Presently, Barr. Dakum has filed a suit against the secret police at the federal High Court holden in Abuja, the federal capital territory and hearing is expected to commence soon.
