Five political parties have dragged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to court over deregistration.

The Electoral Body had deregistered 74 political parties in the country.

However, the political parties in a suit filed before Federal High Court Abuja sought an interim injunction restraining the INEC from deregistering the Political parties from participating in the forthcoming governorship elections in Anambra, Ondo and Edo states.

The Political parties involved in the suit are Advanced Nigeria Democratic Party, (ANDM), Liberation Movement (LM), Nigeria Community Movement Party (NCMP), United Peoples Congress (UPC) and Movement for the Restoration and Defence of Democracy (MRDD).

The political parties in a suit jointly signed by G.O Egbule , Ben Jones, Henry Okusuwha and Nkemakolam Egbuta asked the court to restrain the Electoral Commission from stopping the political parties from participating in local government elections across the country pending the determination of the matter.
