Senate on Thursday urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare the results of June 12 Presidential election, 1993.

Former Head of States,  Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida had annulled the results of June 12, 1993 Presidential election which was conducted by Professor Humphrey Nwosu who was the chairman of the electoral body.

The election was described by free and fair election by the international standard.

However, Senate in its resolution also asked for recognition of late Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola as former President of Federal Republic of Nigeria and also recognise his running mate  Ambassador Babagana Kingibe as former Vice President.

President Muhammad Buhari had on Wednesday decorated June 12 as “Democracy Day” instead of May 29.

Senate decision was as a result of point of order raised by Senator Lanre Tejuosho who commended Mr. President for the declaration adding that this is the sign of good thing to come.

Coming on same point of order on same matter , Senator Biodun Olujinmi made a request for the announcement of results of June 12, 1993.

The Senator also requested the federal government to recognise late Abiola as Former President and Ambassador Babagana Kingibe as former Vice President.

The  prayer was unanimously adopted by the Senate.

All senators who contributed to the motion commended President Buhari for the declaration of June 12 “Democracy Day”.
