Illegal Detention: Court Slams N50m Damages Against Police

A Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice John Tsoho has imposed a fifty million Naira penalty against the Nigerian Police over human rights violations.

The suit was filed by one Inalegwu Franklin Ochife who brought allegations of arrest, detention, torture and threat to life before the honourable court.

According to the suit, Mr. Ochife was arrested and detained illegally by police operatives on January 31, 2018.

Ruling, Justice Tsoho stated that the arrest and subsequent detention was illegal and not justifiable and awarded fifty million Naira in favour of the plaintiff.
