Court sacks pro-Wike PDP chairman in Rivers

A High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, has voided the chairmanship of Chukwuemeka Aaron, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairman in the state.

Aaron, a known loyalist of former Governor Nyesom Wike, who is currently the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), was booted out of office on Monday by Justice Stephen Jumbo.

The court’s verdict also invalidated the PDP ward, local government, and state congresses held in July 2024, which had formed the foundation of Aaron’s leadership.

Meanwhile, this development follows a similar incident involving the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State.

Barely a month ago, another High Court nullified the APC’s ward, local government, and state congresses, leading to the removal of Chief Tony Okocha, another Wike loyalist, as the APC chairman.

The cancellation of the PDP congresses stems from a dispute over their legitimacy.

A faction of the PDP loyal to Wike had conducted the congresses despite an earlier injunction by Justice Charles Wali on July 20, 2024, barring the party from proceeding.
