COAS Visits 35 Artillery Brigade, urges troops to strengthen operations in defence of Nigeria

Abeokuta, Ogun State – On Tuesday, February 25, 2025, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), visited the Headquarters 35 Artillery Brigade.

This important visit aimed to evaluate the troops’ operational readiness and welfare, showcasing his commitment to supporting the military.

Furthermore, this visit is part of Lieutenant General Oluyede’s broader working tour of various Nigerian Army (NA) formations.

By actively engaging with the troops, General Oluyede showcases his proactive leadership style, thereby strengthening his bond with military personnel nationwide.

His hands-on approach fosters trust and unity, ensuring a more cohesive and motivated force.

Upon arriving, General Oluyede received a warm welcome from Brigade Commander Brigadier General Godwin Nwamba.

He then provided a detailed briefing.

This update covered the current security challenges in Ogun State and its surrounding areas, offering crucial insights for strategic planning.

The Commander also outlined the operational activities and challenges faced by the Brigade.

Addressing the troops during his visit, the COAS emphasized the importance of reinvigorating their operations to ensure the safety and security of Nigeria.

He highlighted that a secure environment is fundamental to achieving meaningful national development.

“Your role as professional soldiers is critical to the stability and progress of our nation. I urge you to remain steadfast and committed in discharging your duties,” he said.

The Army Chief reiterated his “soldier-first” mantra, underscoring his commitment to prioritizing the welfare of personnel under his leadership.

He assured the troops that their challenges would be addressed based on priority. Additionally, he encouraged them to utilize the Nigerian Army Soft Loan Scheme.

Furthermore, this scheme offers an exceptionally low interest rate of 3 percent. Its goal is to economically empower soldiers while enhancing the living standards of their families.

General Oluyede expressed appreciation for the sacrifices made by troops, acknowledging their efforts to secure the country. He also inspected facilities within Alamala Barracks, assessing their condition and identifying areas needing improvement.

During his visit, the COAS toured the Momas-Epail Military Industrial Complex in Abeokuta. This facility produces military hardware, and General Oluyede conducted an inspection tour to evaluate its contributions to Nigeria’s defense capabilities.

Accompanying the COAS were senior military officials, including Major General Kevin Aligbe, Commander of Training and Doctrine Command. They were joined by Major General Farouk Mijinyawa, General Officer Commanding 81 Division, along with Principal Staff Officers from Army Headquarters.

The visit underscores the Nigerian Army’s commitment to enhancing operational efficiency and ensuring the welfare of its personnel as part of its broader mandate to safeguard the nation.
