Chibok: FG Loses Bid To Stop Defamation Lawsuit By Human Rights Lawyer

The Federal Government of Nigeria [FGN] has failed in its bid to stop defamation lawsuit filed by human rights lawyer, Barrister Emmanuel Ogebe on behalf of the plaintiff over the Chibok girls saga.
The ruling thus paving the way for a multimillion dollar defamation lawsuit against the FGN to proceed.
Following this initial victory, the court has set down April 12, 2018, for hearing of this case proper.
Incidentally the case is again coming up on the 4th anniversary week of the Chibok girls abductions by Boko Haram as it did last year.
The Federal Government failed in its bid to stop the trial on grounds that it was statute-barred.
The court denied the preliminary objections and upheld the arguments of Ogebe, Ogebe Legal Practitioners counsel to the plaintiff.
In a status update provided to the plaintiff, counsel stated as follows:
“Please, do be informed that the court on March 1, 2018 delivered its ruling on Defendants’ Preliminary Objections in this matter.
“The court by the said ruling dismissed the Preliminary Objections of the Defendants in their entirety and adjourned to the 12th of April, 2018 for hearing of the suit.”

The trial is holding at Abuja High Court 28 in Jabi at 9am.

A press conference with interested media will hold after the hearing to mark the 4 year anniversary of the Chibok abductions.
